Notes About the Build:

The tiny shop build was a project of necessity. With such a small space, we needed to add a little more multifunction and mobility to the tools and tool organization.

One of the driving forces of the tiny shop build was to get the table saw inside. No longer would weather and daylight be limiting factors on when we could/would want to make cuts. We also wanted to increase the table and table slots available on the table saw to improve our work on larger pieces.

Another feature of the build was establishing some semblance of a router table in the shop to, once again, refine larger cuts.

Finally, we needed more consolidated storage for all of the smaller tools and more mobile work benches giving us more flexibility when it comes to dealing with larger pieces of lumber.

Specs:

  • Room: 10′ x 14′
  • 2 interlocking, mobile benches
  • 1 mobile planer cart
  • 1 mobile storage and organizer shelf
  • 1 extended table saw
  • 1 router table

The Build: Part 1

1.

First, in Part 1 of the DIY tiny shop build, we tackle the mobile shelving unit. This unit was made to hold all of the smaller power tools and offer organization for bits and hardware, as well as the small hand tools like levels, clamps, tape measures, etc. Check out the video above for specific how to’s and construction examples of the DIY tiny shop shelving unit!

2.

Secondly, Part 1 also tackles the most difficult or time consuming aspect of  the DIY tiny shop build, the table saw bench. It too needed to be mobile, but also have modular capabilities to be able to extend the feed table for larger projects AND needed to be multifunctional because — you guessed it — it’s a tiny shop! In Parts 2 and 3, we add a semblance of a router table to give this bench it’s multifunction. For specific how to’s and spec builds for the table saw bench in the DIY tiny shop build, check out the video above!

The Build: Part 2

1.

In part 2 of the DIY tiny shop build, we tackle the second mobile and modular work bench. This bench interlocks with the bench build int part one to give the table saw and router table a longer feed table, but also dislocates for general workspace!

2.

This bench also includes as large lower shelf to act as more storage space, specifically for heavier, less used tools like the air compressor and large ratcheting set. For specific how to’s and spec builds for the second work bench in the DIY tiny shop, check out the video, part 2!

The Build: Part 3

The Build: Part 3

1.

In part 3 of the DIY tiny shop build,  we finish up the interlocking aspects of the two benches with extended table slots so sleds and jigs can move freely between them.

2.

We also finish up the first bench with the router table that will sits in the elongated tablesaw table. Two for one!

3.

Finally we get to the small hand tool organization with peg board on the back of the mobil shelving unit, and put the finishing final touches and polishes on the whole shebang!

We hope you enjoyed the build! Now time for many more projects!
